Treasuring His Word


In Psalm 119:1, the Spirit-inspired author reminds us that the man who walks in the law of the Lord is considered blessed. In other words, the one who knows and keeps the word of God as his supreme treasure will experience a way of life that cannot be experienced otherwise. The psalmist continues throughout the entire chapter expressing the divine benefits that are available to those who uphold the word of God in their lives.

May these promises related to knowing and obeying the Scriptures stir your hearts to testify with the psalmist that “the law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.” (Psalm 119:72)

The word of God is able to keep the young person pure (Psalm 119:9)

The word of God is able give us victory over sin (Psalm 119:11;133)

The word of God is able to counsel us (Psalm 119:24)

The word of God is able to grant us a sense of true life (Psalm 119:25)

The word of God is able to strengthen us during deep sorrow (Psalm 119:28)

The word of God is able to protect us from false ways (Psalm 119:29)

The word of God is able to keep us from experiencing reproach (Psalm 119:39)

The word of God is able to give us confidence while being taunted (Psalm 119:42)

The word of God is able to comfort us when experiencing affliction (Psalm 119:50)

The word of God is able to give us a sense of direction in life (Psalm 119:59)

The word of God is able to satisfy and soften our hearts (Psalm 119:70)

The word of God is an anchor of hope in times of waiting and turmoil (Psalm 119:82-83)

The word of God is a source of wisdom and understanding (Psalm 119:98-99)

The word of God makes the simple person wise (Psalm 119:130)

The word of God offers a joy like one who wins the lottery (Psalm 119:162)

The word of God offers a real and experiential peace (Psalm 119:165)

The word of God offers stability in all seasons of life, regardless of circumstances (Psalm 119:165)

The word of God is able to give us a reason to sing (Psalm 119:172)

Have you lost your zeal for the word of God? Don’t forfeit these life-altering truths by finding your source of delight in other trivial things. Recognize these blessings and pray what the psalmist prayed in Psalm 119:18: “Open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”
